I have been passively following the Every Day Sexism Project for over a year now and the development they made in 1 1/2 years is definitely noticeable. People fast started to post their stories there, that now over dozens of posts are published per hour. They also started their project for different countries and languages.
Long story short: It’s a somehow innovative and great idea, that shows, that our society is far, far away from being gender equal.
Most of the women or girls who wrote about their story, are either shy, think it’s normal or other people tell them the proceeding were totally normal and that they shouldn’t freak out about it. I personal get very often mad, think “How is this even possible?!”, feel sorry for the victims and could punch all these sexist males and also females in the face. Even though this sounds a bit rough.
Personally find most – when not all – of the entries frightening. But the question is of course if Every Day Sexism is in some sort a helpful project. In my opinion: Yes?. Many stories are memorizable, it’s every day worth a read and you get reminded that it’s definitely not all over with sexism yet, what else could you ask for?
